Dr. Beatrice Bella Johnson is a Registered nurse and have a PhD in Nursing from the University of Western Cape, South Africa in 2022. She obtained a post graduate certificate in education in 2022 from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and a Master’s degree in Telemedicine and eHealth from the University of Tromsø, Norway in 2011 and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with Psychology from the University of Ghana in 2006. Dr. Johnson had the privilege to be involved in the training of nurses at both at the Nurses Training College and the University respectively for the past seventeen years.
Work Experience
Dr. Johnson worked at the Ho Teaching Hospital as a staff nurse from 2000 to 2003. She taught gerontology, medical and paediatric nursing at the Ho Nurses Training College, Ghana (2006-2013), where she was a class co-ordinator, tutor responsible student affairs. In this capacity, she liaised between students and the school administration, supervised students research and care study, counselled students in both academic and social issues. She was an examiner for the Nurses and Midwifery Council of Ghana. She is also a nurse member of the international society of Telemedicine and e-Health.
Currently, she is a lecturer at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana, from 2013 till date. Aside from teaching which includes “Nursing Informatics”, “Curriculum Development”, “Tools and Methods of Teaching Nursing and Midwifery” and “Gerontological Nursing”. She is a member of the team that reviewed the first nursing curriculum for the School of Nursing. She is the school’s Clinical Coordinator who manages the skills laboratory and coordinates students’ clinical practicum and examinations. Dr. Johnson teaches and supervises post-graduate research. She has a passion for caring for older adults and paediatric patients.
Science/Research output
Dr. Johnson has six publications, including a book to her credit and her research interest areas are Telenursing, mHealth eHealth, application of eHealth in chronic disease management and prevention, electronic health records, especially nursing documentation. Currently, Dr. Johnson is involved in mHealth-supported diabetes self-management education, where she sends tailored SMS to people living with diabetes in the Ho Municipality of Ghana.
