Mabel Apaanye Avane is an Assistant Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho-Ghana. Prior to this appointment she was a Health (Nursing) Tutor at the Nursing and Health Assistant (clinical) Training College, Zuarungu- Ghana. She is a General Nurse by Profession.
Education She commenced her tertiary education in the Bolgatanga Nurse’s Training College, Ghana where she qualified as a State Registered Nurse. She then continued to pursue BSc in Nursing at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi-Ghana and then to the University of Ghana-Legon, to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing degree.
Work experience She practiced as a State Registered Nurse at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for 4years where she worked in various departments such as the Emergency, Medical and Surgical, Pediatric and Chest wards as well as the Intensive care unit and Theatre. She later moved on to work in the Nursing and Health Assistant (clinical), Zuarungu. There aside her duties as a health tutor, she functioned as the clinical coordinator, welfare tutor and occasionally acted as the principal and academic officer.
Science/Research output Her research interest is in the area of Maternal and Child health as well as Nursing Education. She has 5 group publications on Exclusive breastfeeding, a group research on the Performance of Nurse Managers and another group research in Psychiatry. She has assisted some colleagues in their qualitative studies at the Masters and PhD levels. She has supervised researches of past students of UHAS and is still doing so and is currently working with a student to publish a research on Cervical cancer.
