IRENE TORSHIE ATTACHIE

attachie bio 1488365922Mrs. Irene Torshie Attachie is the immediate past Head of Department and a lecturer at Department of Midwifery in School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Health and Allied Science, Ho. She has more than a decade of teaching and training of midwifery and general nursing students.

Education

Irene obtained the State Registered Nursing Certificate after training at the Nursing Training College, Sekondi, then qualified as a Midwife after training at Nursing and Midwifery Training College Korle-Bu, Accra. Later read a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing with Psychology, after which she pursued Master of Philosophy in Nursing at Department of Maternal and Child Health of the School of Nursing, University of Ghana, Legon.

Mrs. Irene Torshie Attachie is currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing at York University, Canada.

Work Experience

Mrs. Irene Torshie Attachie has three (3) years of general nursing practice at the medical and surgical wards of Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, in the western Region of Ghana. She has seven (7) years midwifery practice with health institutions under the Ghana Health Services in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. With more than a decade worth of practical exposure and experience she has delivered key services such as complete antenatal services to pregnant women, labour attendance and post-partum key services including the provision of family planning services. 

In 2008; Irene Attachie commenced her nurse educator role with the Health Assistants Training School, Teshie and Nursing and Midwifery Training College-Korle-Bu, where she taught courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Basic Research Methods, Basic Obstetrics, Anatomy of the Reproductive system, Normal Pregnancy and more, over a period of five (5) years. She served on Academic and Examination committee at the Health Assistants Training School, also counselled student professionally and generally. Mrs. Attachie Works for the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Ghana as a Text Constructor and Practical Assessor.

Science /Research Interest

One of her areas of research interest is loss management in the health service delivery; thus, her thesis focused on the experiences of mothers who had stillbirth. This led to publications such as: Mothers' Experiences of Stillbirth: A Study in the Accra Metropolis (Socio-Cultural Implications), Stillbirth: Clients perception on service delivery and also Psychosocial impact of stillbirth (both at press). She has also co-authored “Ectopic Pregnancy in a Referral Hospital in the Volta Region of Ghana West Africa”.
Mrs. Irene Torshie Attachie has participated in a number of conferences; had a conference presentation with the International Science Technology, Arts, Education, Management and Social Sciences (ISTEAMS), UPSA Accra. She was a keynote speaker at the 7TH ISTEAMS Multidisciplinary Conference Series, University of Illorin, 2016.
