Ms. Evelyn Sunnu is the Acting Head of Department for Midwifery in School of Nursing and Midwifery. She is a Paediatric Nurse Specialist who was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer in the University of Health and Allied Sciences in the year 2014. She is a Convocation Representative on the Academic Board 2019/2020 to 2020/2021 academic year. Currently she is the Coordinator for access course 2019/2020 to 2020/2021 for the Academic year, School of Nursing and Midwifery UHAS. She is the coordinator for Licensure Preparation Committee 2020/2021. She has coordinated Access Course in the 2015/2016 academic year as well. She was a Principal Health Tutor before her appointment at UHAS.
Education
She had her Paediatric Nurse Specialist Program at Ghana College of Nurses’ and Midwives, Accra, Faculty of Midwifery and Paediatrics in 2019. She had her Masters of Public Health (Population and Reproductive Health) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in 2011, Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from University of Cape Coast, 2010. B.A Nursing with Psychology from University of Ghana, Legon in 2004 and State Registered Nursing from Nurses’ Training College, Cape Coast in 1998 all in Ghana.
Work Experience
Ms. Evelyn Sunnu teach Paediatric Nursing, Reproductive and Family Planning, Psychology (Human Growth and Development), Neonatal Nursing I &II and Basic Nursing. She supervises students’ project work and care studies, and promotes knowledge through research at UHAS. Prior to this she was a Principal Health Educator at the Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Kumasi where she taught Paediatric Nursing for nine years and other courses such as Basic and Advance Nursing, Psychology for Nurses and Medicine and Medical Nursing. She also taught Research Methods and other courses at the then Nurse’s Training College, Agogo, Asante Akyem in 2004 before her transfer to NMTC, Kumasi in 2005. Ms. Evelyn Sunnu was appointed as a demonstrator for Nursing Practice at Department of Nursing KNUST on part time bases till 2014. She also taught at Premier Nurse’s Training College, Kumasi from 2006 to 2009 on part time bases. She worked as a clinical nurse/ bedside nursing at Cape Coast District Hospital and Tema General Hospital before entering teaching.
Science /Research output
She has a special research interest in Child and Adolescent Reproductive Health with two publications in the same area. She is a Foundation Fellow Ghana College of Nurses’ and Midwives (FGCNM, 2016) in the Faculty of Midwifery and Paediatrics and also a Fellow of West African College of Nursing (FWACN, 2015) Faculty of Medical and Surgical Nursing. She was a leader of Ghana Registered Nurses’ and Midwives Association for NMTC, Kumasi from 2011 to 2014. She is a member of Nurse Educators Group and the Paediatric Society of Ghana.
