Bachelor of Public Health Nursing

1. Local Applicants- Core Subjects SSSCE or WASSCE  

Applicants must obtain credits in SSSCE or WASSCE (at least Grade A-D or at least Grade A1-C6) respectively in the following core subjects:  

  • Mathematics  
  • English  
  • Integrated Science  
  • Social Studies  

Applicants with Science Background  

In addition to the core subjects stated above, applicants must obtain three (3) credits (at least Grade A-D or at least Grade A1-C6) in the following elective subjects:  

  • Chemistry  
  • Physics  
  • Biology or  
  • Elective Mathematics.  

Applicants with Arts Background  

In addition to the core subjects, applicants must obtain three (3) credits (at least Grade A-D or at least Grade A1-C6) in the following elective subjects:  

  • History  
  • Geography       
  • Agric  
  • Home Economics  
  • Literature in English  
  • Management in Living  
  • Christian Religious Studies  
  • French  
  • Economics

2. Entry Requirements – Diploma / Professional Nurses

Candidates with diploma in community health nursing awarded by institutions recognized by GTEC shall require the following:  

  • An FGPA of 2.5 or better or its equivalent
  • Shall attend a selection interview.  

Successful applicants will enter the programme at Level 300.  

 

3. Entry Requirements – Diploma Changing Speciality Area

Candidates with diploma in Registered General Nursing; Registered Midwifery; Registered Mental Health Nursing awarded by institutions recognized by GTEC, and crossing-carpet shall require the following:  

  • An FGPA of 2.5 or better or its equivalent  
  • Shall attend a selection interview.  

**Successful applicants will enter the programme at Level 200.  

 

4. Certificate entry:  

Applicants with community/public health nursing certificate will go through access course (mature student) organize by GTEC, and successful applicants will enter at level 200.  

Certificate applicants cross-carpeting from other professional areas such as Nurse Assistant Clinicals (NAC)/Enrolled Nurses will enter the programme at Level 100.  

 

5. Graduate Entry and Transfer  

Graduate Entry: A candidate with Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University or who has completed part of a relevant programme and wishes to transfer to UHAS may be considered for admission on the recommendation of a Special Admissions Committee appointed by the Dean.

 

Generally, graduate applicants must have an FGPA of not less than 2.5 (Second Class Lower Division) or its equivalent.  

 

6. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced/Ordinary Level Candidates  

Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (non-science students) and an Arts subject (for science students)  

 

7. International applicants and Ghanaians with external educational credentials

The applicants’ results have to be verified by GTEC to determine the equivalence of their results and provide recommendation of their appropriateness.
