Overview

The Midwifery Department is one of the first accredited programmes at the University’s inception. Since its establishment, the Department has played a pioneering role in midwifery education at the higher degree level, beginning with its first cohort of nine students in 2011. These students received intensive academic and clinical training, culminating in a 100% pass rate in the Midwifery Licensing Examination, a trend that continued for a long period, a reflection of the Department’s commitment to excellence.

We are dedicated to nurturing midwifery students through rigorous, competency-based education and mentorship. Our programmes will equip future midwives with the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead, innovate and advocate within dynamic healthcare systems.

3. Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Community Engagement

We will foster strong partnerships across academic disciplines, clinical settings, and community organizations. Through collaborative learning and practice, our students will be prepared to contribute to integrated, accessible and culturally responsive care.

4. Innovation, Research and Policy Leadership

We will champion evidence-informed teaching, support faculty and student-led research and engage in policy dialogue to advance maternal and newborn health. Our Department will serve as a hub for innovation and advocacy, promoting the visibility and impact of midwifery education.
